ASHEVILLE WEDDING + ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER
“ Maddie creates magic. You hope and pray for your pictures to be as beautiful as you envision them, and she does so much more than that. We’ve had three sessions with Maddie, and each one was perfect. To also mention her personality, she’s so beautiful, genuinely kind and patient. Exactly who you want to be with you on your big day. “

How should I go about picking a wedding photographer? HELP!
Here in the Asheville area you will find PLENTY of options so be sure and shop around. Find somone’s work that really speaks to you. Ask for a full gallery. ESPECIALLY one that reflects something similar to your venue. Ask if they are insured!
Make sure you vibe with the photographer (or any wedding vendor for that matter). You will be spending a lot of time with them on your wedding day. Make sure they are a calming presence and good under stress.
Should I add a second photographer?
A second photographer can be great when your wedding has two things happening at once. If getting ready photos are important, and you and your partner are far away, a second photographer comes in handy. Another example is the cocktail hour – when traditionally you’d be doing couples photographs.
If you have a smaller wedding then a second photographer can feel a bit crowded and unnecessary. I am trained to photograph your wedding entirely without any assistance. Usually a second photographer accounts for 5-10% of a final gallery.
Hiring a second photographer for 4 hours is $200 and 8 hours is $400.
How much will this cost?
I don’t hide my pricing structure from potential clients. How frustrating is that! I got you. My rate for an 8 hour photo package is $2,400. Head over to the PRICING page for a complete list of what’s included in that package. I’m happy to adjust the price to reflect the hours you need for your wedding day (no two weddings are the same).
An engagement or lifestyle photo session is $300 for an hours coverage.
When can I expect my finished photo gallery?
Delivery takes 3-4 months in wedding galleries and 1-2 weeks for hour long photo sessions. I try and deliver a few preview images within a few days!
Where are the best spots to have our photos done around Asheville?
This is the hot question! If you are looking to stay close to Asheville you will have limited options. Most of the best “mountain” locations are AT LEAST an hour from Asheville. I’m more than happy to provide photo examples for these locations upon request.
Close to Asheville:
Biltmore: The Biltmore is an iconic location. I have a season pass making your entry fee the only additional fee. The Biltmore offers mountain views and stunning botanical gardens surrounding the estate. This is my number one requested location for proposal photography.
N.C. Arboretum: 15 minutes from Asheville and a great option for lovers of beautiful gardens. They have one spot with a mountain backdrop. Popular for engagement and family photo sessions. The entry fee is $14 per parked car.
Mountain Top Locations:
Max Patch Mountain: Along the Appalachian Trail (AT) and offering the best views of the mountains. This is my #1 requested engagement photo location. The hike takes 20 minutes to reach the top. The drive is an hour and 15 minutes from Asheville with the last 30 minutes on a gravel road. If you are not used to mountain roads this is not for the faint of heart. But the views are WORTH IT!
Bearwallow Mountain: Only a 35 minute drive from Asheville with the last 5 minutes on a gravel road. The hike takes at least 30 minutes. This pasture land is cleared and offers spectacular views.
Black Balsam: Along the Blue Ridge Parkway, this spot is an hour and 10 minutes from Asheville. The hike is 15-20 minutes to 360 degree views of the mountains. A favorite spot for both sunrise and sunset photos.
Looking Glass Falls: This spot is VERY popular and I always suggest a sunrise session to beat the crowds. This waterfall is stunning and always takes my breath away. No hiking needed. 45 minute drive from Asheville.
Dupont State Park: 45 minutes from Asheville. Labeled as a waterfall paradise. Only a 15-20 minute walk to three separate waterfalls.
Twin Falls: Located an hour and 15 minutes from Asheville in Sunset, SC. Only a short 5 minute walk to the falls.
Can I change into my outfit (wedding outfit or engagement clothes) at the top of the mountain? HOW?!
Yes!! I have a pop-up changing station that can be used ANYWHERE. Just let me know before the session and I will bring it along.
