FACTS ABOUT ME

HI, I'M MADDIE
01
ANIMALS
My Aunt Roxy was the crazy animal lady who welcomed all creatures to her home. I’m talking feral cats, raccoons, runaway farm pigs – you name it. I would walk to her house and pet the horses and her 10+ adopted cats. I always said I wanted to be like her when I grew up. So here we are, living on 1.2 acres and 19 animals later. If it were up to me we’d own every animal known to man.
02
VAN LIFE
My husband & I planned a van trip for 4 months during the National Park Centennial of 2016 after only 3 months of dating. And we adopted a 9 week old puppy just a week before leaving. We named him Yogi. That is the start of our family and the rest is history. We do not live in a van currently but dream of buying one for weekend adventures.
03
SMILE
Kindess goes a long way. It’s hard to find me without a smile or an easy laugh. Gratitude is important to me. I believe our light is meant to be shared and passed forward.
04
MOUNTAINS ARE MY HOME
I grew up in the Midwest surrounded by corn + soybean fields and ultimately decided the mountains are where I’m destined to be. I lived in Montana for 2 years and eventually settled in Asheville, NC.
05
TRAVELLER
My goal is to visit every single U.S. state by 2020. I have 47 down. I only need New Hampshire, Vermont, & Hawaii. Please someone take me to Hawaii.
06
DIABETES + CELIAC DISEASE
20 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac Disease within the same month. I was 9 years old and have never let it hold me back. When I decline a slice of wedding cake – believe me it’s not because I don’t want it!
PHOTOS + ANIMALS
Know where your meat comes from. Our goal is to produce our own meat from our land and be more sustainable. We did not grow up with a farming background but its amazing what you can learn from others (and endless YouTube “how-to” videos).
